Anti-S100A4 Antibody [SD200-08]

Description: Fibroblast-specific protein 1 (FSP1, also called S100A4) is considered a marker of fibroblasts in different organs undergoing tissue remodeling and is used to identify fibroblasts derived from EMT in several organs including the liver. The Mts1 gene encodes a small acidic Ca2+-binding protein, Mts1 (also designated S100A4, calvasculin or metastasin). Mts1 belongs to the S100 family of small Ca2+-binding proteins and is expressed in a cell-specific manner. Mts1 protein is involved in tumor progression and metastasis, and also has a significant stimulatory effect on angiogenesis. The level of Mts1 protein in serum increases with aging, suggesting that Mts1 may play a role in the ind-uction of tumor progression via stimulation of angiogenesis. In addition, Mts1 cooperates with p53 in apoptosis induction by binding to the C-term-inal regulatory domain of p53 to inhibit the DNA binding activity of p53. The ability of Mts1 to enhance p53-dependent apoptosis may accelerate the loss of p53 function in tumors. Thus, Mts1 can contribute to the development of a more aggressive phenotype during tumor progression.

Description: S100A4 belongs to the S100 super-family of proteins containing 2 EF-hand calcium-binding domains. S100 genes include at least 25 members, including S100A1-S100A18, trichohyalin, filaggrin, repetin, S100P, and S100Z. S100A4 exerts its function via direct interaction with a number of proteins including P53, P63, non-muscle myosin IIA, 64 integrin, and liprin b1. S100A4 is overexpressed in highly metastatic cancers, which makes it useful as a marker of tumor progression.

Description: S100 calcium-binding protein A4 (S100A4) is a protein that in humans is encoded by the S100A4 gene. The protein encoded by this gene is a member of the S100 family of proteins containing 2 EF-hand calcium-binding motifs. S100 proteins are localized in the cytoplasm and/or nucleus of a wide range of cells, and involved in the regulation of a number of cellular processes such as cell cycle progression and differentiation. S100 genes include at least 13 members which are located as a cluster on chromosome 1q21. This protein may function in motility, invasion, and tubulin polymerization. Chromosomal rearrangements and altered expression of this gene have been implicated in tumor metastasis. Multiple alternatively spliced variants, encoding the same protein, have been identified.
